ON THE TOWN: The Revolution is over (in other words, Prince has broken up his band). But that didn’t stop the Purple One from getting back on stage last Monday with what surely must be his second favorite group--the Bangles. The occasion was KIIS-FM’s new concert series at the Palace, which will showcase a new, up ‘n’ coming band every other week. And since the series is called “Manic Mondays,” it seemed appropriate to have the Bangles kick off the show with a 40-minute live set. According to Bangles manager Mike Gormley, Prince came down to see the show with ex-Revolution guitarist Wendy Melvoin (which may put to rest rumors that the group’s split was less than relatively amicable). The duo asked if they could join the Bangles on the group’s rendition of “Manic Monday.” But when Bangles guitarist Vicki Peterson spotted Prince in the wings when the band was playing “Hero Takes a Fall,” she rushed him out on stage in time to play the song’s guitar solo. Prince then handed his guitar to Wendy, who played it on “Manic Monday,” with Prince sticking to the tambourine. . . . The series continues this week, with a special Tuesday night show at the Palace, featuring (who else?) til tuesday.
