A Letter to Nancy

This is a new experience for me--writing in regard to a news item, but I have read Jerry’s column with gratitude and enthusiasm for years, and often thought I owed him some expression of this gratitude. But the article to Nancy is not only the most beautiful thing I have read from his pen, but from the pages of The Times. At first I thought it was a takeoff on the famous Santa Claus letter, but frankly, Jerry’s articulation far, far exceeds it.
