1% Dip in Tekelec Net Blamed on Sales Expenses

Tekelec, citing the cost of the recent expansion of its sales operations, said net income in the third quarter fell about 1% from a year earlier to $433,000, or 12 cents a share. Sales, however, were up 39%, to $3.7 million.
The Calabasas company, which makes equipment that tests telecommunications gear, said earnings for the nine months ended Sept. 30 increased 29%, to $1.1 million, or 33 cents a share. Revenue was up 58%, to $10.2 million.
