Councilman, 2 Others Indicted in Philadelphia
A city councilman, his chief legislative aide and an admitted organized crime family member were indicted by a federal grand jury today on charges that they tried to extort $1 million from a waterfront developer.
In addition, Councilman Leland Beloff, 44, was accused in a second indictment of election fraud, together with his wife, Diane, and two city Democratic committee members. Beloff’s aide, Robert Rego, 42, and Nicholas (Nicky Crow) Caramandi, 52, a member of the Nicodemo (Little Nicky) Scarfo crime family, were indicted with Beloff in the extortion conspiracy case.
