LPGA Won’t Have Event in Costa Mesa Next Year

A Ladies Professional Golf Assn. tournament at Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa will not be held in 1987 because of lack of sponsorship, said Paul Zangger, executive director of the Uniden LPGA Invitational.

After Uniden’s withdrawal as tournament sponsor last April, Zangger could not find a suitable replacement.

“There’s a strong possibility of the LPGA coming back in 1988,” he said. “There are a couple of very interested parties.”

Uniden completed its three-year contract with Mesa Verde with this year’s event--won by Mary Beth Zimmerman--but chose not to act on its three-year option, Zangger said.
