One corrections officer was fired and another demoted for negligence in the escape of convicted killer David J. Roberts. Roberts overpowered officer Mario Rodriquez and Sgt. Dale Frazier Friday during a trip from an Indianapolis hospital to the Indiana state prison at Michigan City by pulling a derringer when they loosened his restraints to let him eat a sandwich near Valparaiso. The search for Roberts, 42, of Indianapolis, entered its fifth day with no leads.
