Ducommun Inc. reported a third-quarter net loss of $849,000, compared to a loss from continuing operations of $1.2 million for the same period a year earlier. Third-quarter sales totaled $111.1 million, compared to sales of $99.7 million for the same period a year ago.

For the nine months, the company reported a net loss of $525,000, compared to net income from continuing operations of $399,000. Sales for the nine months totaled $347.8 million, up nearly 13% from $308.3 million. Write-offs for losses on discontinued operations gave the company a net loss of $1.1 million for the first nine months of last year.

The company attributed the 1986 losses to “the protracted severe recession in the electronic components market.” Ducommun also cited costs incurred in consolidating operations and moving its corporate staff from Los Angeles to Cypress earlier this year. In addition, the company said it was hurt by delays in the Space Shuttle external tank project and delays in several classified military programs.
