Downey : Trash Bill to Increase

Downey residents will see a 35-cent monthly increase in their trash bill.
The City Council Monday night unanimously approved the increase that sets the rate at $6.17 a month for single-family residences and $5.32 for multiple residences. The increase will be reflected in bills mailed in November.
According to Harald Henrikson, a public works engineer, the increase reflects a 549% jump in liability insurance for Rio Hondo Disposal Service, which has a five-year contract with the city.
Henrikson said trash pickup rates are reviewed each year.
