Gannett Co. Will Buy the Arkansas Gazette

WASHINGTON —
The Arkansas Gazette, the oldest newspaper west of the Mississippi River, will be purchased for $51 million by Gannett Co., the company and the Little Rock-based newspaper announced today.
Since July, 1985, Gannett has purchased the Des Moines (Iowa) Register, the Detroit News, the (Louisville, Ky.) Courier-Journal and the Louisville Times. Gannett also publishes the national daily USA Today.
