BERN, Switzerland — Swiss President Alphons Egli’s car careened out of control and hit at least three other vehicles Tuesday night, police said Wednesday.
The car shot across the street after he started it outside the Swiss Parliament, scraping one parked car and ramming at least two others. No one was injured, and the cause of the accident was not known.
Egli, who is 62 and plans to step down at the end of his one-year term in December, was breathalyzed at his own request, and police said no alcohol was found in his blood.
Fred Buri, chief technical officer of the Bern police, said in a radio interview that no faults have been detected in Egli’s car.
