Democratic Senate candidate Edward Garvey and his wife, Betty, filed a $2-million libel suit charging Sen. Bob Kasten (R-Wis.) and his media consultant with maliciously damaging their reputations. The Garveys contend Kasten and New York media consultant Roger Ailes defamed them in radio and television commercials stating that $750,000 of NFL Players Assn. money “disappeared” under Garvey’s stewardship and “Garvey didn’t know where it went.” Garvey was the pro football union’s executive director from 1971 to 1983.
