A Japanese man took out large insurance policies before boarding the Thai International jetliner that made an emergency landing Sunday in Osaka after a hand grenade exploded on the plane, the Kyodo News Agency said. It said the unidentified man insured himself for $940,000 in Manila. The blast caused a loss of pressure, and the A-300 Airbus plummeted violently, injuring 62 of the 247 people on board. Police have declined to confirm reports that a 43-year-old man being questioned in an Osaka hospital is a member of the Yamaguchi-gumi, the country’s largest organized crime syndicate.
