Detroit officials said a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew for persons under 18 may be ordered again next year to fight “Devil’s Night” after a citywide mobilization this year appeared to have dampened the city’s annual Halloween arson spree. Along with the three-day curfew, Mayor Coleman Young assigned 11,000 police and civilians to arson patrols. There apparently were more “Devil’s Night” fires Thursday than the night before Halloween a year earlier--226 this year compared to 206--but Young said there were “less fires in houses and considerably more in garbage cans, dumpsters and vehicles.”
