A majority of American Catholic laity would like their church to adopt more flexible policies on sexual morality to reflect trends in the modern world, the Gallup Poll found. In the latest survey, 57% of Roman Catholics said their church should change its official position while 36% believe the church should adhere to its present policies on sexual morals. The survey was conducted shortly after the Vatican revoked the license of Father Charles Curran, a Roman Catholic priest and university professor of theology, because his teachings on homosexuality, abortion, conception and other moral issues were at variance with Catholic dogma.
