The Nation : Religion Influence Grows
Nearly half of Americans said religion was gaining in impact on American life, according to a Gallup Poll. Forty-eight percent said religion was increasing its influence, while 39% said it was decreasing in impact and 6% said it stayed the same. The proportion saying that religion’s influence was increasing was three times that recorded in 1969, when 14% said religion was increasing its influence and 70% said it was losing impact. The survey also showed that 57% hold the belief that religion can answer all or most of today’s problems, down from 61% last year, while 23% disagreed.
