SEVEN SELECTED FOR TV’S HALL OF FAME
Seven well-known television figures have been selected by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for induction into the group’s Hall of Fame.
The honorees are Johnny Carson, Capt. Jacques Cousteau, Jim Henson, Bob Hope, Ernie Kovacs (posthumously), Eric Sevareid and Leonard Goldenson, chairman of the executive committee of Cap Cities/ABC.
Selected for their lifetime contributions to television, the seven will be inducted into the academy’s Hall of Fame in ceremonies to take place next spring.
They were picked by the academy’s Hall of Fame selection committee following nominations by the ATAS board of governors.
The academy’s Hall of Fame was established in 1983. Previous inductees include Steve Allen, Lucille Ball, Milton Berle, Carol Burnett, Sid Caesar, Paddy Chayefsky, Fred Coe, Walter Cronkite, Walt Disney, Jackie Gleason, Joyce C. Hall, Norman Lear, Mary Tyler Moore, Edward R. Murrow, William S. Paley, David Sarnoff, Rod Serling, Frank Stanton, Ed Sullivan, Burr Tillstrom and Sylvester (Pat) Weaver.
