Le Dizes-Richard, the winner of the 1983 Carnegie Hall International American Music Competition, leads an engrossing excursion around the contemporary chamber repertory for violin. She is a virtuso of the new modern, riding with all and sundry challenges. Those include Carter’s compact fantasia, Shapey’s tart, throbbing effusion, Machover’s bravura--if empty--exercise and Melby’s fascinating meeting of humanity and electronics. Henriot collaborates sympathetically, and New World’s European pressings represent a distinct improvement over this company’s norm.
