The State : Cancer Victim Arrives

The first Soviet cancer victim permitted to seek treatment in the United States and her Jewish refusenik husband landed in San Francisco, where they were greeted by family members who had emigrated earlier. American Jewish organizations had waged a long campaign to get the seriously ill Tanya Bogomolny, 47, and her husband, Vinyamin, 40, out of the Soviet Union. Vinyamin’s 20-year wait to emigrate was the longest of any Jewish refusenik, according to Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-N.J.).
