The Nation : Cases Against Doctors Up
Serious disciplinary action by state licensing boards against doctors increased by 67% in 1985 over the year before, the Public Citizen Health Research Group reported. Using data compiled by the Federation of State Medical Boards, the consumer group said there were 1,131 serious actions such as license revocations, suspensions or probations recorded, compared to 678 in 1984. Nevada had the highest rate of serious actions, with 9.98 per 1,000 doctors. California ranked 31st, with a rate of 1.75 per 1,000. Alaska, Montana and Nebraska had no cases of serious disciplinary actions.
