The Nation : N.Y. Police Stage Protest

Share

Police officers in New York ignored traffic violators, made fewer misdemeanor arrrests and broke into radio calls to create confusion during a protest against official measures to fight corruption. The protest stemmed from a seven-point plan announced last week by Police Commissioner Benjamin Ward, calling for rotating 20% of the force to different neighborhoods every year, which would result in the transfer of all officers to new precincts every five years. Thirteen officers from Brooklyn’s 77th Precinct were arrested last Thursday on charges of shaking down drug dealers.
