Hasenfus Pardon a Possibility

MANAGUA, Nicaragua —
The government indicated today that it might pardon an American on trial for his role in supplying the U.S.-backed Nicaraguan rebels with weapons.
The Sandinista People’s Tribunal trying Eugene Hasenfus is expected to hand down a verdict and sentence Friday or Monday, according to defense and prosecution lawyers. “The question of whether to pardon will be a later decision” by Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, Foreign Ministry spokesman Angla Saballos said.
