Bruins Will Show Their Stuff Tonight in Intrasquad Game at Pauley Pavilion

The basketball season will begin for UCLA tonight, sort of. Even though it’s only an intrasquad game, the Bruins will take the court at Pauley Pavilion with a lot of high expectations.

Coach Walt Hazzard, starting his third year with the Bruins, has all five starters back from last year’s team that finished 15-14 overall and 9-9 in the Pacific 10 Conference. Hazzard’s starters are Reggie Miller and Craig Jackson at forward, Jack Haley at center and Pooh Richardson and Montel Hatcher at guard.

The intrasquad game will mark the debut of the Bruins’ four freshmen, 6-10 center Greg Foster, 6-10 forward Kevin Walker, 6-8 forward Trevor Wilson and 6-6 forward Stu Meinert.

For the tonight’s game, the five returning starters plus Wilson and Meinert will play against the rest of the team.

Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
