Stolen Newborn Believed Found; Couple Arrested
A baby believed to be the newborn taken from his mother in Pennsylvania last week was found alive and well Thursday, and a man and a woman were arrested on kidnaping charges, the FBI said.
Although the parents of Phillip Worthington still were awaiting positive identification of the child Thursday night, they announced that it was the “happiest day of our lives.”
Charged with kidnaping were Ramona Joan Thompson and George Stanley Soustek, according to Andy Manning, a spokesman for the FBI in Baltimore.
FBI agents, acting on a tip from an undisclosed source, arrested the two in a parking lot near a suburban Baltimore shopping mall. The woman was in a car with the baby.
The week-old infant is believed to be the baby born Nov. 6 in Sellersville, Pa., to Neil and Barbara Worthington, Manning said.
Thompson, 44, of Ellicott City, Md., and Soustek, 42, of Baltimore, appeared before a city bail bond commissioner, and both were denied bail. They were scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate today.
