NATO Report Puts Iran Among Nations Backing Terrorism

ISTANBUL, Turkey — Terrorist attacks will increase and claim more lives in the future, according to a draft report prepared for a North Atlantic Treaty Organization meeting that started Friday.
The report named Iran, Syria and Libya as countries supporting international terrorism.
“Iran, Syria and Libya openly endorse terrorism as a means of achieving their policy goals,” it added.
It said the number of terrorist attacks increased by 30% in 1983 while the terrorist actions that ended with killings have gone up by 20% annually since 1980.
The report, written by Bruce George of Britain for the political committee of the North Atlantic Assembly’s 32nd session, criticized the Western Europeans in their preference for political measures to fight terrorism which “have done little to stem the proliferation of terrorist activities.”
