AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are finishing up work on a new album, titled “Let Me Up I’ve Had Enough.” It’s due out in early spring from MCA Records, with Petty and guitarist Mike Campbell handling the production chores. The band, which recorded most of the songs live in the studio, has about 30 tunes to choose from. But likely candidates include “How Many More Days,” “Make That Connection,” “I Like the Way She Comes (to Me)” and a new ballad called “It’ll All Work out,” which Petty debuted, acoustic-style, at a recent San Francisco charity show. The group is also discussing plans for an American tour next summer and a possible European swing next spring with Bob Dylan. . . . It’s no secret that singles help promote album sales. But will they help video sales too? We’ll find out soon, since Van Halen’s new single, “Best of Both Worlds,” is a live track from the band’s upcoming home video, “Live Without A Net.” (The single’s flip-side has an edited version of the studio recording of the song, from the “5150” album.) The 90-minute video, filmed at a recent Van Halen concert in New Haven, Conn., features live versions of 14 current and past band hits, as well as “Best of Both Worlds.”
