Paramount Seeks $109,000 for Park Community Center
The city has applied for a $109,000 state grant to continue its extensive rehabilitation and remodeling of Paramount Park Community Center.
The money is provided to city, county and regional park districts through Proposition 43, a bond issue passed by voters in June, which provides $100 million to improve or restore parks and other recreational areas.
The city’s share is based on its population.
The city recently completed a $470,000 exterior renovation and landscaping project at the park. Half of the funds were from the state and the city paid the other half.
The new funds would be used to remodel and renovate the interior of the center. Construction is expected to start early next year. The entire project is expected to cost about $650,000, with all of the funds coming from various state grants.
The center, which is the home of the city’s elderly nutrition program, will be closed for about six months during construction.
The nutrition program, which feeds about 200 senior citizens daily, will take place in the park gymnasium during construction.
