AIDS Boy Can Go to Kindergarten
A federal judge in Los Angeles today ordered Atascadero’s school district to allow 5-year-old Ryan Thomas to return to kindergarten, ruling that the AIDS victim who bit a classmate in a schoolyard scuffle Sept. 8 poses no danger.
Saying “there is nothing to fear from this child,” U.S. District Judge Alicemarie Stotler granted a preliminary injunction sought by Ryan’s parents and the American Civil Liberties Union. The Atascadero Unified School District ruled in October that Ryan could not return to kindergarten before next semester.
