Rosa Mota of Portugal, running alone most of the way, won the Tokyo international women’s marathon in meet-record time, beating defending champion Katrin Doerre of East Germany by more than 4 1/2 minutes.
Mota, the 1984 Olympic bronze medalist and 1986 European marathon champion, took the lead at the 3.7-mile mark of the race and finished in 2 hours 27 minutes 15 seconds.
The previous meet record of 2:30:27 was set by Britain’s Joyce Smith in 1980.
