About 7,700 workers at the Delco Electronics plant in Kokomo, Ind., went on strike in a dispute over the transfer of radio production work to Mexico next year. Production was shut down, but 3,000 salaried workers stayed on the job. Delco, a division of General Motors Corp., makes car radios and auto-related electronic components. Members of Local 292 of the United Auto Workers walked out after negotiators failed to resolve the Mexico work issue, which the union said could result in the loss of 2,000 jobs, and the subcontracting of some skilled jobs to non-union workers.
