Jack’s Bar

Hooray for Jack Goldstein, who acknowledged his South Boston roots by painting green shamrocks all over the front of Jack’s Cocktails, across the street from the Hollenbeck Station. He got it right, with three leaves per shamrock. Not “four-leaf clovers,” as described by The Times. Anyone from South Boston knows that a shamrock has three leaves, and has nothing to do with a four-leaf clover, a valid symbol in its own right.

Jack also properly acknowledged St. Patrick’s Day in the best American tradition, by serving up corned beef and cabbage. (In Ireland, the national dish is bacon and cabbage, Irish bacon being a far cry from the inferior American stuff.)

Hooray for Jack Goldstein, a true South Bostonian who understands his roots.
