A Beirut telephone caller claiming to speak for the Revolutionary Justice Organization said the group is not holding the kidnaped French diplomat Marcel Carton and that an earlier announcement of his impending release was a hoax. An editor of the independent Beirut newspaper An Nahar quoted the caller as saying the group “did not . . . announce the release of any hostage.” Originally, the pro-Iranian Islamic Jihad (Islamic Holy War)--not the apparently pro-Syrian Revolutionary Justice Organization--claimed it had kidnaped Carton.
