Conscience-Stricken Man Confesses
A man tormented by his conscience confessed to a 25-year-old killing he said he committed as a teen-age gang member, and he told police that another man served time for the crime.
Albert S. Hernandez, 44, of Rialto, walked into the Fontana Police Station on Wednesday and described the shooting, Sgt. Tim Ousley told the Fontana Herald-News today.
Hernandez was booked for investigation of murder and held without bail at the San Bernardino County Jail.
He said he killed a rival street gang member he knew only as “Little Ruben” at a party in South Los Angeles in 1960 or 1961.
He said another gang member, “Froggie,” was convicted and served time in the California Youth Authority.
Los Angeles police and sheriff’s deputies were checking their files for the killing, Ousley said.
