The words “BANG BANG,” scrawled on a grimy sixth-floor window at the Texas School Book Depository, overlooking the spot in Dallas where President John F. Kennedy was slain, angered people marking the 23rd anniversary of his death. It was from the sixth floor, though not from that window, that a sniper believed to have been Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963. By evening the words had been smudged away. As before, the city had no official ceremony, but private citizens dotted Dealey Plaza with flowers. A little after noon, about the time Kennedy was shot, about 30 people formed a circle on a nearby knoll and stood silently.
