Suspected Irish Republican Army guerrillas fired mortars at a joint army-police post from across the border in the Irish Republic, injuring five British soldiers, police said.

Police said the soldiers were injured by flying glass and two were hospitalized, but none were hurt seriously in the Sunday attack. No arrests were reported after the salvo at the Middletown police-army post 40 miles south of Belfast.
