Sikh separatists armed with submachine guns burst into a Sikh policeman’s home in Watanwali village during his engagement party and opened fire, killing the officer, his parents and three relatives and wounding a fourth person, Indian authorities said. They said that three of the four gunmen have been identified as among the most wanted of the Sikh radicals, who are fighting for an independent Punjab, the only state in predominantly Hindu India where Sikhs are in the majority. The assailants fled the village in a jeep.
