Ahmed Zaki Yamani, who was dismissed last month as Saudi Arabia’s oil minister, has been ordered by King Fahd not to leave the country, the Financial Times of London reported. The respected financial daily, which gave no source for its front-page story, said Yamani’s passport had been taken away. The Associated Press reported that when it telephoned Yamani’s residences in Saudi Arabia, his assistants gave evasive replies about his whereabouts. The paper said Yamani, who was Saudi Arabia’s oil minister for 26 years and a key figure in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, was dismissed after expressing strong reservations about the king’s call to restore the price of oil to $18 a barrel immediately, without any production cuts.
