Thanksgiving weekend drivers will pay about 84 cents a gallon for unleaded gasoline, a 34- to 36-cent savings over last year, according to a survey by the California State Automobile Assn. And the state Board of Equalization said it expects California’s record appetite for cheaper gasoline to continue through the rest of the year. Board Chairman Richard Nevins said that, for the first time in history, September gas sales topped the billion-gallon mark--a 6% increase over the same month last year--and predicted that a total of 12 billion gallons would be sold during 1986, an all-time record for gas consumption in the state.
