Cambodian guerrilla leader Pol Pot, a major obstacle to a solution of the Cambodian conflict, has cancer and is not expected to live more than another year, informed Thai and Western sources said. They said that the shadowy 61-year-old figure is now in China for medical treatment and that they do not expect him to return to fight the pro-Hanoi government that ousted him eight years ago. One source said it is “quite definite” that the Khmer Rouge leader is near death. Pol Pot is blamed for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Cambodians during the late 1970s.
