Israeli warplanes Thursday attacked Palestinian guerrillas fighting Shia Muslim Amal militiamen for control of a strategic village, killing at least 11 people and wounding 20.

In Damascus, Syria, representatives of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Shia Muslim militia Amal agreed Thursday to a cease-fire to start at 3 p.m. today, and the withdrawal of Palestinian guerrillas from positions east of Sidon to the refugee camps of Miye ou Miye and Ein el Hilwa, Lebanese militia sources said.

The truce is part of a peace plan reached after a week of talks under the sponsorship of Syrian Vice President Abdel-Halim Khaddam.

The meeting, attended by Lebanese leftist militia leaders, gave the guerrillas until Saturday to complete their withdrawal from positions they occupied during four days of battles in Maghdousheh, a Christian village 2 1/2 miles southeast of Sidon.

Civilians Trapped

The Red Cross had appealed for a cease-fire so it could evacuate civilians trapped by the battle in Maghdousheh.

Police said Amal militiamen and Palestinian guerrillas still were battling in Maghdousheh but the fighting had eased in intensity.

Police said two Israeli F-4 jets bombed a number of Palestinian guerrilla positions on the hills between Maghdousheh and the nearby refugee camp of Miye ou Miye, killing 10 Palestinian fighters and wounding 15. Amal issued a statement saying the Israeli warplanes also bombed some of its positions in nearby hills, killing one militiaman and wounding five.

The two planes made three bombing passes as four other jets flew overhead providing cover fire, said a police source in Sidon, a port city 24 miles south of Beirut.

In Israel, a military spokesman said: “The targets attacked included terrorist positions and fortifications serving the Fatah movement and other organizations.”

“All planes returned safely to base and their pilots reported accurate hits,” he said.

Fatah Bases Damaged

Lebanese police sources said the areas hit included strategic hills that the Palestinian guerrillas captured in their attack this week against Maghdousheh.

The jets dropped at least six bombs, severely damaging bases of the mainstream Fatah group of the PLO and the pro-Syrian Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the police sources said.
