McEnroe Plays Lendl Today at Atlanta
John McEnroe and Czechoslovakia’s Ivan Lendl won third-round matches in the $500,000 AT&T; Challenge at Atlanta Friday and will meet today in the semifinals.
Friday, Lendl defeated Sweden’s Mikael Pernfors in 53 minutes, 6-1, 6-1, and McEnroe beat Brad Gilbert in 66 minutes, 6-2, 6-1.
In the other semifinal, West Germany’s Boris Becker will play France’s Yannick Noah.
Becker outlasted Mats Wilander of Sweden, 7-6, 6-3, and Noah downed Miloslav Mecir of Czechoslovakia, 6-4, 6-2.
