Reagan and the Unfolding Iran-Contra Deals

Quite clearly President Reagan has stubbed his toe on the Iran-U.S. arms deal. After pressing for a policy among allies for no negotiation with terrorists, he has broken through his own policy in his dealing with Iran.

His integrity and consequently the integrity of our country have been seriously damaged in these negotiations.

Confidence in President Reagan is now virtually non-existent. He cannot repair his situation with his “aw-shucks” expression or ready smile and usual quip.

What is needed is new policies to replace the bankrupt ones. Certainly we cannot expect these to come from this administration. Hopefully, the new Congress will move to repair the damage.
