Credit Card Discounts

The use of various credit cards can secure you some discounts at hotels under new promotions between hotel chains and card issuers.

Hilton Hotels is offering “Fridays Are Free” certificates to Shell Oil Signature card holders, which provide free accommodations on Friday nights when the card holder’s stay includes Saturday night at a non-discounted rate.

The certificates can be used, subject to space availability, at more than 150 participating Hilton hotels until May 30.

Similarly, Omni Hotels is offering a free two-night weekend stay for two persons when you use your American Express card to stay a total of four week nights (Monday through Thursday) at participating hotels. You have to accumulate the four nights, which don’t have to be consecutive or at the same hotel, by Jan. 31.

The gratis weekend stay can be taken, on a space-available basis, until April 30.

Participating Omni hotels are in Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Miami, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York, Norfolk and Washington, D.C.

Adam’s Mark Hotels has introduced a frequent guest membership program, which gives special discounts if you stay at least seven nights at any combination of the chain’s seven hotels over 12 months starting from the time you join. There is no cost to join, and cards are issued to members.

The chain has hotels in Houston, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Charlotte, N.C., and Clearwater Beach, Fla.

You can get lower room rates with the discounts ranging from 10% to 15% depending on the property and type of room, and up to 20% off of Hertz rental cars. In addition, you can receive discount coupons for an extra 10% off for a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night stay at any of the hotels.

Another bonus provided is a 10% discount on clothing, jewelry and gift items at any Adam’s Mark gift shop.
