Integrated Air Systems Could Close in 2 Months

Integrated Air Systems might close permanently by Jan. 31, idling the 200 workers at its Valencia plant, company representatives said.

But officials at Integrated and at its parent company, Smiths Industries of London, England, differed over whether the firm might be saved.

David Bainbridge, a spokesman for Smiths, said the Valencia maker of “clean room” systems and robotic semiconductor processing equipment has been losing money and “has no prospects for being viable.”

He said Smiths has tried to find a buyer but has had no offers.

But William Brooks, vice president and general manager of Integrated, said the company has a prospective buyer who signed a letter of intent. Brooks would not disclose the prospective buyer’s name.

Smiths, which employs 11,000 and had sales last year of about $500 million, is a diversified aerospace, defense and medical-equipment company.
