Laotian Leader Names Acting Assembly Head
From Reuters
BANGKOK, Thailand —
Ailing Laotian President Souphanouvong, 77, has appointed an acting chairman of the country’s National Assembly, the Vietnamese News Agency reported Monday.
The agency, monitored in Bangkok, said Politburo member Sisomphon Lovansai, vice chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly, was named to the post, which is normally held by the president.
Souphanouvong appointed Vice Premier Phoumi Vongvichit as acting president in late October after suffering what diplomats here said was a paralyzing stroke in September.
