A key government witness in the trial of reputed mob boss John Gotti linked the accused godfather and three co-defendants to slayings that silenced potential witnesses and eliminated gangland rivals. Convicted killer James Cardinali, 37, also described in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn how he was schooled in the ways of murder and hijacking. Cardinali testified that he met Gotti, who is among six defendants being tried on racketeering charges, in prison and later joined Gotti’s organization.
