Voters in this university town will be able to back or oppose a call for ending U.S. military aid to Central America, the City Council has decided.

The council voted Monday night to place the proposal on the Feb. 16 primary election ballot after supporters of the measure presented petitions signed by 299 registered voters.

Under the city charter, that forced the council either to adopt the proposal or place it before the voters.
