A medical helicopter ferrying a stroke victim to a Nashville hospital slammed into trees in heavy fog shortly after takeoff Wednesday, killing the patient, two nurses and the pilot, authorities said.

Radio reporter John Mulnicks of WCLC in Jamestown said the helicopter clipped the tops off several large trees before crashing into a pasture.

Glen Choate, manager of the Jamestown Municipal Airport, said the craft had “just got in the air” before it crashed on a farm about a mile from Fentress County Hospital in Jamestown.
