AGOURA

LAST SEASON: 4-15, 1-7 in league

THIS SEASON: Coach Bob LaBelle warns against opponents taking his team for granted. “We’re going to surprise the hell out of a lot of people,” he said. “We can go with 10 people and wouldn’t lose anything.” The best four are returning starter Mike Armstrong, a 6-0 junior guard, part-time starter Craig Duryea, a 6-3 forward, Shambi Huddleston, a 6-3 junior center who led the junior varsity to a league title last season, and Sid Williams, a 6-3 senior who moved from Seattle. “We’ll probably run and use a match up zone defense,” LaBelle said. “We’ll press. We can go with a whole lot of things. And we will.”

CALABASAS

LAST SEASON: 17-7, 6-2 in league

THIS SEASON: Coach Bill Bellatty said he team is again small--but very aggressive. “We will come out shooting,” he said. “We want to shoot 70 points a game.” He’s got the players to do it, namely Steve Ward, a Times’ all-Valley player after averaging 28.5 points. The 6-4 senior guard will get help from John Drezner, a 6-2 junior forward, and Cory Marshalk, a 6-1 guard. Calabasas could be even stronger if Demetrius Jones overcomes torn ligaments in both ankles. He’s expected to miss six to eight weeks. “He’s my big man,” Bellatty said. “He’s going to add a lot of rebounds.”
