POD, Valley Crest Win Top Landscapers Award

POD Inc., landscape architects, and Valley Crest Landscape, contractor, were Grand Award winners in the 1986 Landscape Architecture Design Awards presentation sponsored by the Southern California chapter, American Society of Landscape Architects and the Landscape Architecture Foundation.

The two firms received the awards for their work on California Plaza, an urban design project owned by Bunker Hill Associates. POD won four other awards and Valley Crest won three others.

In addition, more than 30 other persons and firms received awards. This was the third year of presentations and a record total of 103 submissions were received.

Entries were accepted in three major categories: design; planning, research and communication, and student work.

Winners received a newly-designed Grand Award trophy created by the Roxburgh Agency of Costa Mesa.

Award of Excellence winners were:

DESIGN--Community Planning. Project: Lantern Bay master plan; landscape architect, SWA Group; landscape contractor, Tracy & Haigh Landscape.

DESIGN--Park, Recreational and Open-Space Planning. Project: Cabrillo Marina/Beach Recreation Complex; landscape architect, Edaw Inc.; landscape contractor, Valley Crest Landscape.

DESIGN--Hotels, Motels, Inns. Project: Bel-Air Hotel; landscape architect, POD Inc.; landscape contractor, Shin Honda.

DESIGN--Multi-Family Housing. Project: Cobbler Square; landscape architect, POD Inc.; landscape contractor, Adam Tezza & Sons Inc.

DESIGN--Single-Family Residential Communities. Project: Sea Cliff; landscape architect, Cardoza-Dilallo-Harrington; landscape industries.

DESIGN--Historic Preservation and Restoration. Project: Pacific Asia Museum; landscape architect, Eriksson Peters Thoms; landscape contractor, Kreutzer Landscape Co.

DESIGN-- Hardscape Designs. Project: First Interstate Bank Plaza; landscape architect, SWA Group; landscape contractor, Rancho Landscape.
