Construction has started on the $11.5-million expansion and renovation of the National Broadcasting Co.’s Studios 1 and 3 in Burbank.

Cashion Horie Cocke Gonzalez Architects, Los Angeles and Montclair, provided architectural and engineering services on the 20,400-square-foot project and designed a master plan that will unify existing structures and establish a stronger corporate identity.

In addition, NBC has retained CHCG to design new facilities for an adjacent TV building, bringing total project costs, including construction and equipment, to $26.5 million.

Occupying a corner at the intersection of Olive and Alameda avenues, the TV building which house Los Angeles affiliate KNBC-TV’s news operation, will provide a central focal point for Burbank’s Media District, a square-mile area that contains several major movie studios and record companies and is a major employment center in Los Angeles.
